Mill Creek Middle School wants to create a boys lacrosse team for 7th and 8th graders because they want the kids to join the high school lacrosse team when they go to the high school. Practices will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at Mill Creek. Zac S, an 8th grader, said, “I think it's cool that Mill Creek has a lacrosse team, but I don't think most of the kids will show up.”

Lacrosse originated with the Native Americans. It is played using a small rubber ball and racquet called a lacrosse stick. The pocket or head of the lacrosse stick is strung with a loose mesh or netting thats designed to hold the rubber ball. The objective offensively, of the game is to use the lacrosse stick to catch, carry and pass the ball in an attempt to score by shooting the ball into the opponent's goal. Defensively the objective is to keep the opposing team from scoring and to make them drop the ball by checking and using body contact or positioning.

Thirty-five students signed up for Mill Creek Middle School lacrosse. There are four positions of lacrosse, attack, middie, defense, and goalie. The coach, Mark Erber, will teach students how to throw, catch and pass the lacrosse ball. Nathan Watson, 7th grader, had this to say about the lacrosse team, “I think that it's a waste of time and I don't think that enough people will join.”

Students will need to provide their own equipment to be on the team. There will be a minimum of ten and a maximum of twenty players on the team. There are three home games, and three away games; most games are an hour long.
