First dance gets mixed reviews

Dances, are they social events or a hang out?  On Friday, October 23, 2009, Mill Creek Middle School had their first dance.  The majority of the students that attended really liked the dance.  The cafeteria was decorated a little with Christmas lights, a drop down disco ball, and some paper to make it darker.  There were approximately 150 - 250 students that attended.  It seemed a little crowded because everyone was standing in the middle of the floor.  The 7th graders and 8th graders socialized with each other and everyone got along.  There were no fights that happened, so you could say, it was a safe environment.  Celina C, 7th, says, "I will go to all the dances!"

The music could have been better.  They were mixed views on the music.  Some students liked it and others thought there could have been more of a variety.  The song, Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus, was played numerous times in a row.  A lot of students requested it, but some got annoyed because it felt like it was the only song playing for a while.  As for some of the dance moves, you might say they were a little unique.  They are actual dances, but one might question if they belong at a middle school dance.  Students were having fun and that is all that is important.

Stephen R, 7th, reports, "I loved the dance!"

Overall, the first dance was a hit and everyone cannot wait for the next one.  Hopefully more will show up.  Don't forget the glow sticks!
