Jimi Hendrix is the best guitarist ever

Imagine you’re at the Woodstock Festival in 1969.  The Festival’s almost over, which is a shame considering that the acts had all been awesome. Next up is Jimi Hendrix, who’s supposed to be great. You watch the spectacular act, and don’t think it could get much better until Jimi lights his guitar on fire. Everyone goes wild. It’s experiences like this that make many people (like me) believe that Jimi Hendrix is the best rock guitarist ever. Nick G, 7th grader, stated, “He had a lot of skill. He could play guitar in unique ways, that other guitarists couldn’t do.”

Although Hendrix had a short career (since he died at 27), he is still considered to be better than guitarists who had a full career. He was ranked at number one on the Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of all time. The argument about whether or not Hendrix is the best guitarist ever is very popular. Some believe that Eric Clapton or Eddie Van Halen should be honored as the best guitarist. But the truth is that neither Clapton or Van Halen could play at Jimi’s level of guitar playing. When asked whether Jimi Hendrix was the best guitarist or not, Brandon S, 7th grader, replied, “Yeah, because he’s experienced and he did a bunch of publicity stunts that took skill.” Brandon might be referring to how Jimi sometimes would play the guitar with his teeth, behind his back, or under his legs.

Another reason why Jimi is great was the fact that he could make up things on the spot. When he was playing live in front of Paul McCartney and George Harrison (members of the Beatles), he redid their song “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Band” after rehearsing it offstage for a couple minutes. Most people that try to do what Hendrix did would fail miserably, but Paul McCartney thought it was great.

Some people who doubt Jimi was that good, make the argument that Jimi didn’t play other types of music than psychedelic rock. They say that people like Eric Clapton played in other fields of music much better than Jimi. But the reason Hendrix was so good on guitar was that he played his own genre of music so well. In songs like “Purple Haze” and “All Along The Watchtower,” Jimi showed how good he was at playing rock. Hendrix fans realize how good he was at his music and didn’t need him to play any other genres.

Lots of people have different thoughts about how good Jimi was. Though some people won’t admit that he’s the best guitarist, they will admit that he was amazing. The Jimi Hendrix argument will definitely continue for a very long time. Hopefully you know that Jimi is the best guitarist ever and will appreciate his music.
