Lions beat Browns

January 12, 2010
Sunday, Nov. 22, at Detroit's Ford Field, the Lions beat the Browns when Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown to Brandon Pettigrew.  Detroit finally won their second game of the season, 38-37.  It was amazing; I finally felt good about them.  Then again, they are the Detroit Lions: they can win and lose, it doesn't matter. They are trying to rebuild the team at a certain pace of their own.

In the Lions/ Browns game, the rookie Matthew Stafford won the game with a touchdown throw to another rookie, Brandon Pettigrew, the tight end. It was Matt's fifth touchdown in the game, the most by a rookie ever in one game.  His coach Jim Schwartz said, “I think we saw him today play the way we expected him to play when we drafted him, big in red zone play.”

Brandon Pettigrew said, “We actually just put that (play) in this week.”

The Lions almost lost, and I would have been angry at the coach if he had not listened to his great rookie and leader on this bad team. The Lions hopefully will turn the year around and get at least three wins. This year is at least better than last year.  The way the Lions played in that game they were proud of the fact that they won their second game of the season and not in last place.

The Lions had a good draft and we have hope for them in years to come.  The Lions need to hopefully take this year’s draft as a building block for the other drafts and come up big with a new team with an old look to them.  Hopefully the Lions will make all of Michigan happy in one way or another.

The Lions win shows how well two rookies in this year's draft came up big when they needed them.  A rookie to rookie touchdown pass could have ended differently.  This draft came up big when they needed it to.  Somehow they were doing well against the Browns defense in the red zone where it counts.
