Obama demands longer school for students

Could you imagine?  Imagine the torture of longer school days, weeks and years!?  You would have to get up every day, earlier besides on Sunday's and would only have that day off for break.  President Barack Obama believes that we should be like the rest of the world and begin this process of longer school days, weeks and years.  Well, I oppose and go against Obama's belief.

For myself, I believe that we have no reason to change our school board and expand how long we have school.  "Why would you think that I would want to go to school longer than I already do?!  I oppose against this!" Emma J, 8th, states.  Obama fights, "That calendar may have once made sense, but today, it puts us at a competitive disadvantage.  Our children spend over a month less in school than children in South Korea.  That is no way to prepare them for a 21st-century economy."  I understand what our former president is trying to accomplish but just because the children somewhere else spend more time in school than us Americans doesn't mean that they are more educated!  Why does Obama think this about us Americans?  "We are already very well educated!" Maddie J, 8th declares.  Many people go against this situation and conflict between the government and citizens of our nation.  I believe that the reason why Obama thinks that we need to spend more time in school is so that we can be more aware of the government, even though we already are.

"I would be really upset because living in Michigan and having summer being a treat for us, it would be no fair to take away the time of the year when we can finally relax and enjoy the nice weather," Julien H, 7th quotes.  I agree.  Why do we need to take summer off for more school? I think that summer is very important for students to have because some people get stressed out during the school year, like myself, about homework, tests and how to manage our time well.  It is quite hard for some children to stay on task and not go over-obsessive about school because they are too stressed out with all of their after school activities.  I even know some people that have to stay up very late to get all of their homework done!  Some say that they stay up til midnight!  They need to understand that us students get very stressed, especially at this age of education!  We need our breaks!

If there were to be more school hours many students would have the disadvantage of trying to get all of their homework done, with having after school activities too.  "Yea, pretty much every day after school I have hockey practice and I just don't have time!  And the days when I don't have it I want to just hang out.  I don't want to be doing something constantly each day!  I need spare time in my life!" Brendyn S, 9th says while doing his homework.

"In the face of impossible odds," Obama states, "people who love their country can change it."  This quote presented by our president concludes in my head, the pursuit of happiness, a core democratic value.  From this situation I believe that a myriad of people in our country love and support the United States of America.  Though they are, that means that we the people can do something about this if this were to come into effect.  "I would just follow along.  I wouldn't want to go against him because I don't want there to be any problems," Emma quotes.  But why would you not want to go against it?!

This is one of the things that people have been talking about like crazy.  And as you may have already figured, many students and people go against this.  And if this should come into effect, we need to protest during school hours and go against Obama's belief and stick up for us students!
