Mill Creek swim team forms

Calling all swimmers!  This year there will once again be a Mill Creek swim team.  Mill Creek's swim team is for anyone wanting to swim.  The team is to help improve on your swimming skills and to have a fun team experience.  Athletes come together from all different swim and sport teams, with different levels of swimming ability.  All athletes are encouraged to swim their personal best, which means the real competition is only against yourself.

The team is co-ed and is coached by the 8th grade technology teacher Brian Semple.  The team is also coached by Dave Gendernalik as assistant coach.  Dave coached last year and he coaches the Dexter aquatics club (DCAC).  "The coaches are great and we really get to bond as a team. We get to make t-shirts and we enjoy swimming in meets and seeing each other grow as swimmers.  Everyone on the team is so close, and we all get along really well.  There is no real competition between us and I believe that anyone can be on the team," says, Laura S, 8th.

The team practices start in late November and run through January.  Swim practice happens right after school.  If done like last year,  the swimmers will meet in Semple's room and wait for the bus to arrive.  The bus takes the swimmers to the high school where they are dropped off near the pool.  After swim practice though there will not be a bus to drive swimmers home, so parents are responsible to pick up their athlete.  Transportation will be provided to and from the meets.  The parents are allowed and encouraged to attend meets and watch their swimmer grow.

The main goal of the swim team is to get people out and having fun.  Kids on the swim team enjoy reaching personal bests and getting good race times.  The team also enjoys plenty of bonding and they do a lot together.  The whole team experience has been quoted as "great" and "exciting" by many swimmers in years past.  Haleigh S, 8th, said, " I can't wait for swim team to start. From what I have heard, it is a lot of fun and it is exciting!"
