Dexter Snow Riders Club enjoys Mt. Brighton

When you go to Mt. Brighton you will see a lot of younger kids and many teens just hanging around going over jumps and going down the hills.  "It's really fun but I don't like the little kids that much because they jump in front of me and they're really slow," says Amanda R., 8th grade.

The Dexter Snow Riders Club is there usually on Sundays.  The club members bring some of the snacks to lay out on the table in the lobby, but the club provides lunch.  Everyone really enjoys the club because of the discounts and the food that's there every day.  The group is every winter at Mt. Brighton on Sunday but if there is no school on Monday or there's a snow day that day then it will be on Monday instead.

Mt. Brighton has many different hills. There's the Bunny Hill, Intermediate Hill, the Bigger Hill, Train Parks and the Black Diamond.  All of these hills are multiple sizes.  The Bunny Hill is the smallest and the Black Diamond is the biggest.  "I like to go over the rails and do the boxes. I can do 180's too!" Ben S., 8th grade, tells me.  There are certain passes for each hill, one for the intermediate hill and the bunny hill and there's an all around pass which means that you can go on all of the hills.  If you don't have the correct pass for the hill then the staff won't let you on the hill.  Same thing happens if you don't have a pass - the staff won't let you in until you buy one. "I really like the train park where all the jumps are and the time you have on the hills," Adam H., 7th grade, says.

Sometimes there are races going on that you can watch.  You aren't allowed on the hill until the races are finished, which sometimes really upsets some people because may be their favorite hill. Some events will be on TV and others are just for the fun of it, but you still have to sign up either way.  They usually announce the winners in the lobby and then hand them their award.  When any member of the club comes in for a snack or anything else they must be quiet if they are announcing the winners.

The Dexter Snow Riders Club is run by Mrs. Spuller. She is the one that buys all of the main course meals like pizza, hot dogs, and tacos.  The club starts whenever Mt. Brighton opens.  All you have to do to join the Dexter Snow Riders Club is attend a meeting in October. You will get a registration form that you need to fill out.  Everything about the club is explained to you at the meeting like what the basic rules of the mountain are.  The meeting is very important to attend so you know when you must turn the registration forms in.
