“I thought it was different then anything I had ever been to, but I went back the second time and loved it!” says Sydney E., 7th grader.  Sydney was talking about her first experience with Wyldlife.

Wyldlife is a national youth group for 6th-8th graders.  Many people from older mature teenagers to adults are the leaders of Wyldlife.  Wyldlife usually meets every week or every other week for an hour.  It is held at many different students' houses. The leaders of Wyldlife plan club each week. The point of Wyldlife is to become closer to God. There is estimated to be over 1,200 Wyldlife groups with more than 32,000 kids participating each week. There are more than 188,000 kids involved with Wyldlife every year. In 2009, nearly 20,000 kids went to camp (me being one of them).

In Dexter, Wyldlife is every other week. It is usually from 8:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m on Fridays.  Some of the leaders are from Dexter High School and others are college students from Ann Arbor.  When you first get to Wyldlife, you get to hang out with your friends until they start.  Once Wyldlife starts, they usually start with two people that are dressed up as characters.  After that they might have another character come out.  Once that part is over, one of the leaders goes up and shares a story about their life with God.  We say a quick prayer.  Then we have a raffle. That's usually a normal club.

I have also heard that there is something on Wednesdays called dig.  I haven't gone to it yet; as for Wyldlife I have been many times. Sydney E., 7th grade, said, “Wyldlife is mainly the highlight of my week and it's just a place where you can be yourself.  I love it a lot.”

Wydlife doesn't only have club.  They also have a camp called Timber Wolf Lake.   It's about four hours away from here. I have been to summer camp, winter weekend, and fall weekend.  You get to stay in a lodge.  The lodges usually have about eight dorms.  Each dorm has about seven bunk beds.  There are separate lodges for the girls and guys.  At summer camp there is a lot of stuff to do.  For outdoor events there is tubing, swimming, the zip line, the blob, the rope swing, bike riding, the ropes course, and many activities.  For indoor there is a rock wall, a gym, a game room, a store, an ice cream shop, etc. There is also a club room where everyone that is at camp, not only Dexter, goes and sings, dances, and acts.  Kids from the audience are called up on stage to participate in the activities.  Anna B., 8th grader says, “I thought camp was really fun! I met a lot of new friends out of Dexter.  My favorite part was the club room.”

Do you like being involved in activities? Do you like spending a week with your friends?  Like to have an active day? If so then get information from someone you know that is involved in Wyldlife.
